Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

Excess skin and the tired appearance which can occur from fat herniation in the lower eyelids can be eliminated by a lower lid blepharoplasty. This outpatient operation commonly takes between 20 and 40 minutes to perform. Conscious sedation is usually administered for patient comfort. The excess lower eyelid fat is either removed or rearranged through a hidden, inside-the-lower-eyelid approach. Alternatively, if a patient has a significant amount of excess skin, an imperceptible incision just below the eyelashes can be used. Most patients, however, do not require an external incision, as the excess skin can be rejuvenated with either chemical peels or laser resurfacing. Swelling and bruising are minimal and typically last 1-2 weeks.
