The nose is the central and most prominent feature of the face. If the size and shape of the nose are out of proportion to other features, then cosmetic surgery of the nose, or Rhinoplasty, can be performed. While Rhinoplasty primarily focuses on changing the external shape of the nose, it can also influence and be combined with other procedures to improve nasal airway breathing.
A Rhinoplasty is often performed with the patient under a general anesthetic and takes between 2 – 4 hours. The patient can usually go home the same day after the surgery. A splint is often placed over the bridge of the nose and remains in place for about 2 weeks. Packing is sometimes placed inside the nostrils and is usually removed after several days.
