ABOUT BREAST LIFT SURGERY

A surgical breast lift is a cosmetic treatment that reshapes the breasts by reducing excess skin and pulling tight the leftover tissue to produce a firmer, younger appearance. This body contouring surgery is offered for women who have lost breast fullness and shape or have breast sagging due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. Medical breakthroughs in breast lift surgery have made this treatment so effective that new statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show around a 70% increase in demand for the procedure since the year 2000. Our skilled team of plastic surgeons in Tacoma, WA offer this cosmetic breast surgery at our office, Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa. By implementing advanced surgical methods, we can determine the proper technique that will address your level of sag and allow you to reach your goals.

IDEAL CANDIDATES

You may visit Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa hoping to get breast augmentation with implants; however, after a physical exam, you may realize that a breast lift is what you need instead. This could be due to the severity of breast sagging that is present. Breasts and nipples that point downward most often require a breast lift to correct skin irregularities and raise the breasts higher up on the chest wall. If your nipples point downward and your breasts look elongated, a lift surgery can also improve their appearance. If you are considering a breast lift, you should be physically healthy and at a stable weight. The best results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts, but breasts of any size can be lifted.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

The breast lift (mastopexy) procedure is designed to reposition and reshape the breast to a more youthful state. This surgery often takes under three hours and is performed using general anesthesia. The timeframe of this procedure depends on the severity of breast sag. The method used for mastopexy surgery generally falls within two categories, which are based on the nature of the incision. The anchor technique (inverted-T) and the vertical incisions are typically the preferred methods. You and your surgeon will work together to determine the ideal incision type for your body. Once the incision is made, any loose and excess skin is carefully trimmed away along with breast tissue and unwanted fat. The skin left behind is then pulled tight, and the breasts are brought up and lifted, producing a younger and healthier look. In many cases, the size and shape of the areola are reduced to match the new shape of the breast. It is during this time an implant can be inserted if this was agreed upon before surgery. If you do not have inserts placed during your breast lift and breast fullness and shape become concerns later, breast implants can be done at a later date.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Most patients go home the same day and typically will not require a surgical drain. The post-surgical swelling will decrease within the first week. Your surgeon or a member of our team will provide you with specific at-home incision care instructions to assist you in your healing process. You will likely require pain medications for one week. It is common for patients to return to work and most daily activities within two weeks post-op. We will ask you to refrain from heavy lifting and exercise for six weeks following your surgery. Results following a breast lift treatment become evident after several months as your newly shaped breasts take their new position on your chest. The breasts will appear natural, and you will feel younger and more healthy.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does a breast lift cost?

During your initial consultation, we will listen to your needs and goals before developing your unique treatment plan. After that, we can estimate your costs. When done well, a breast lift can significantly improve your body so it's vital for you to place importance on having an experienced surgeon with extensive training, like one of our plastic surgeons, to perform your operation. To help make your procedure easier to afford, Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa accepts many payments and can help you find low-interest financing.

Do I need a breast lift or breast implants?

Whether you should get a breast lift, implants, or both will depend on your unique concerns. In many patients, a breast lift can improve the shape and fullness of the breasts without implants. We will assess your physical condition and listen to your goals during your private consultation. From there, we will decide whether you should get a lift, implants, or a breast augmentation with a lift.

Will my nipples be moved?

Typically, the nipple-areola complex will be shifted upward during the breast lift. If your areolas are overly large or stretched, an areola reduction can be performed during your surgery. This can be discussed during your consultation so we can decide on the best incision pattern and technique to use during your breast lift.

How long will my results last?

With proper care after surgery, your results should last for many years. Your breasts will continue to age normally so you might begin to see sagging and loose skin over time. Factors, like significant weight gain or loss, can alter your results so it's best to maintain a stable weight after your breast lift. Pregnancy or breastfeeding after a breast lift can also affect your results, which is why our team suggests patients wait until they are done having children to receive a breast lift.

Can a breast lift fix asymmetry?

A lift can improve asymmetry in your breasts if they are different in size, firmness, or degree of sagging. We will assess the appearance and physical condition of your breasts during your consultation and discuss how a lift can help you. During your procedure, your surgeon will shape the tissue so your breasts are equal in size and positioned for ideal symmetry.
